Significant Achievements

  • Village committees of IMSE have been set up in more than 100 villages in 1980.
  • Adult Literacy Centres have been set up in various districts of West Bengal with purpose to spread literacy among the poor and toiling masses.
  • Apart from this, Dharmagolas (Grain Banks) and co-operatives for agricultural labourers, poor and marginal farmers have been set up.
  • IMSE in 1982 organised an eye-operation camp for the poor people of Birbhum. This gave back vision to 76 persons.
  • IMSE took up community health project in 1983.
  • Mobile library opened in 1984 in Labpur under management of IMSE.
  • Peoples Movement against Missile Base in Orissa organised by IMSE in 1986.
  • Birbhum district peasant conference held in 1989.
  • IMSE in 1992 organized Orissa fishermen in opposition to modern fishing trawlers who enter into the prohibited zone tearing nets and smashing boats, the prized possessions of the toiling poor fishermen.
